The purpose of a tribute show is to allow the audience into a world of past experience. For the audience member that lived during the moment of the artists being recreated, they are allowed the flashback of yesteryears. For the audience member that was not part of that era, they are allowed into the world that once was and was never given the opportunity to live through it. A successful tribute artist/band will be able to combine both of those audiences into a shared moment that satisfies the pleasure points and brings warm fuzzies from a time gone by.
Onstage Arkansas was given the pleasure of being entertained by Britain’s Finest at the Five Star Dinner Theatre November 4, 2016. Though I never was able to see the actual Beatles perform, I would imagine that it would be very similar to the performance last night, minus the fainting girls and mass hysteria (although as the show progressed, the audience was letting their inner fandoms come out—albeit with the help of the tasty beverages served by the theatre!)
Britain’s Finest takes you through the early years “Please, Please Me,” “She Love You,” and “I Saw Her Standing There,” the Sargent Pepper years “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “With a Little Help from My Friends,” and the Revolution period “Hey Jude” and “Revolution.” With so many Beatles hits, it was impossible for Britain’s Finest to sing everyone’s favorite, especially when they may all be your favorite (like me), but that just means they need to come back to our part of the world! I keep feeling like I need to see a second show, because I did not want it to end. I’m pretty sure the rest of the audience felt the same as well.
Compared to other local Beatles tribute acts, these guys may be on the young end of the Beatles world, but that does not diminish their musicianship. Their playing was excellent, and you could tell they were having a good time! Also, it helped with imagining what the actual Beatles looked like in the early years—and they are so cute! It was so hard to pick a favorite Beatle. I could definitely see what all the hype was back in the 60s.
So, Onstage Arkansas will go ahead and speak for the rest of the state when we say that Britain’s Finest is welcome back into Arkansas at any time! Y’all come back now!
